Q: Are The Kardashians Losing Their Influence?
There are only so many times you can reinvent the wheel. And since Kanye’s renaissance on Kim in 2012 till their divorce in 2022, Kim and Co have applied the same slick, smooth and minimal aesthetic he pioneered and now - we're bored.
Sure, Skims is a success since the product is actually amazing and there was a market gap for good supportive shape-wear and who better to flog than the most snatched girl in the world? But, selling on aesthetic alone, Khy, and doing what they’ve done before, KKW make-up, will only appeal to their fandom and not the masses.
My cute pal Honor in the Skims x Swarovski body suit and I can’t even tell you how good the craftsmanship is. Those gems are going NOWHERE.
On the Pretty Big Deal Podcast with Ashley Graham, Kim shared how when she was developing SKIMS, Ye would coach her through sharing tips like “don’t look to the market and copy it, look at it and elevate it or bring something new”. I don’t love to praise Ye, he does that enough for himself, but his impact on her is evident especially as the Kardashian style hasn’t evolved A.Y. (After Ye).
Moreover, the recent style evolutions of Kim and Co has not been by them, it’s brands using them as their muse and models and interpreting them. Think Kim’s bright pink BALENCIAGA take over and Kylie currently “slaying” editorially, emphasis on the e-d-i-t-o-r-i-a-l-l-y. It’s the Creative Directors doing the work, not the Kardashians
End of Questions!
