IWD is for you, my guy!!!

Since equality is all our responsibility, and my experiences are from a cis-female lens well, boy, oh boy - I have a few ideas for you!

If you're a cis-fella and haven’t addressed how you can support women* like me on IWD, then here are a few notions and actions you might want to consider.

  1. Listen to Little Simz. Easy, fun, feminist - lfgggg

  2. Boy, you will not see gender inequality passively. Proactively problematise your life (yep, make it harder) to help the ladies out :) Ask your gal pals how they've experienced gender inequality then see if you can help!

  3. When a footballer is accused of rape, if you instinctively blame the woman, are more upset about the loss of a player than the violence against the victim, or lean into the "until proven guilty" camp - reassess yourself.

    Footballers have good lawyers.

    Assume the worst.

    Do not help excuse rape.

Like, if that was your colleague at work accused of that you'd be like wtfffffff

  4. What % of the people you follow are male?

What % of what you read/watch is by a man?

A lot? Well, let's get some more girls in here!!

Follow four new women* to be inspired by on your social channels

Find four women in your interest or field to read/watch more of

  5. Deep but, have you violated women before? Did you address it or suppress it?

  6. Write five things you like about women* :)

Write five times women* have helped you

  7. Do you over-sexualise women (we all love Insta baddies, but really - you're whole following list? Come on now).

Do you find it hard to value women?

    Why?

  8. Are you respectful to women when it comes to romance?

Just check in by reflecting on your experiences.

Do you take rejection well, or do you blame them?

Are you appropriate, or do you just think you’re appropriate?

That’s it! 8 notions and actions for the 8th of March.

Make sure to not just do work for women like me, keep your work going looking to how you can do better for transgender women, non-binary people and the whole spectrum of genders.

Happy IWD :)

*no, anything involving your work's initiatives, girlfriend, mum or family does not count.
